We had a brilliant day, thanks to Mr Big Stevie Winters, Mr Gower + Gang for putting on a top notch event. The weather was kind as well (mostly!) and there was a good turn out of support for the competitors. They came from far and wide - Justin Powell from Portsmouth, the 7th Strongest Man in the World Terry Hollands turned up to support his training partner Paul Wood as did Britain's under 105kg Strongest Man Steve Stanislaus. There were 4 competitors as 2 pulled out: Jay Hughes, Mick Holding, Paul Wood and Alex Hunter.

The events of the day were:

  • 350kg Super Yoke - 25m
  • Log Press 125kg reps
  • Farmers Walk 150kg - 25m
  • Deadlift 265kg - reps in 60 secs
  • Truck Pull 17.5 tonnes - 25m (no finishers)
  • Atlas Stones 110kg, 120kg, 130kg, 140kg, 150kg onto 5ft 1in platform

So Jay, Mick and Paul qualified for the Final.  £250 prize money is up for the winner of the heats, and £1,000 for the winner of the Final on 5 August.  The tropies are a man loading an Atlas Stone, and weigh 17lbs. There will also be a sword presented for the most gutsy performance.

On a personal note I would like to say a big well done to my training gurus Jay and Big Mick for qualifying.  Even if Jay did bleed over everyone.
